Title |
Maria Bakewell (?) writing about Audubon |
Scope & Content |
Written by Maria Bakewell (?) There is nothing to indicate who it was written to. Undated memo that talks about how when Audubon was a youth his right hand was mangled. His father feared he was permantly disabled. At 19 he was sent to Polytechnic in Paris to be trained to use his left hand. After two years he was able to use the left as well as the right. When Victor was 6 months old they took him on horseback to his father's house near Valley Forge, PA. Audubon carried the baby on a pillow in front of him. When they returned to Henderson KY, Maria returned with them. |
